  1. My name is Sonja Garic and I’m working in the Center for Civic Cooperation, Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Center for Civic Cooperation is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political organization which acts to promote active citizens participation in the life of the community. We are situated in south western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With the implementation of environmental projects CGS began 1999th organizing reforestation projects for students and teachers in primary schools, members of local environmental organizations, citizens, volunteers and local authorities. As conservation and environmental protection are very important for the health and standard of living of people, we decided to systematically address the activities that are aimed at conservation and environmental protection. In partnership with the Municipality of Livno, CGS realized the project “Development of a local environmental action plan for the Municipality of Livno” in 2009.

I’m interested to participate on the CEECEC trial online course “Teaching and Learning Ecological Economics with Civil Society Organizations” and to learn more about relations between ecology and economics.

  4. I am currently for the FAO/UN in the Aceh Province of Indonesia which was devastated by the 2004 tsunami. My task over the last three years has been to put in place the institutional arrangements for fisheries co-management with the state, the fisher organisation and the coastal community as the partners. We have taken an approach which adopts the following chain of activities: awareness-training-action-networking. We have undertaken these activities for the community, the fisher organisation and the state. After nearly three years of work we have negotiated 5 co-management centres along a 400 km of coastline. The objective has been to prove the economic and ecological viability and socio-cultural desirability of participatory co-management arrangements over state-only or community-only alternatives to fisheries management.

  17. Dear Ms. Maiero,

I am interested in participating in this online ecological economics course. I am currently doing a Masters on Sustainability at the Polytechnical University of Barcelona (UPC)focusing in the area of politics and economics. My background is in economic development having worked for 2.5years in microfinance for Women´s World Banking, an NGO based in New York City and as a FOREX Trader for 2 years at Banco de Chile, a private international bank. The area of development has always fascinated me especially for developing countries and the role that they play within the financial markets in developed economies. I am pursuing the Master´s in sustainability because the topic is extremely important touching on the area of ecology something that has had very little emphasis within the realm of development. This course will provide me with hands on input of the realities from the perspective of an NGO and professionals in the field of ecology and economics. Thank you for your time and I will await your response. Liliana Proano
